Music and Events

Music is an integral part of the Take Five atmosphere. You might have guessed that as we're named after a song and our walls feature images of jazz greats. We program our own music (and gladly pay our ASCAP fees to support the music makers). It's primarily jazz - lots of old Blue Note recordings - but we mix in a healthy dose of good rock, funk, soul and rhythm & blues. If there's something you think we might like to add, tell us. Our ears are always open.

Take Five Coffee Bar also features occasional live music from the amazingly talented artists living in the Kansas City area and beyond. Check our calendar and sign up for our e-mail newsletter to find out who's playing.  And remember, at Take Five, there's never a cover.  Now, if you want to enjoy a latte or a cocktail while you're listening, we won't object.

SUNDAY NIGHT JAZZ JAMS hosted by Nick Rowland and Sansabelt!

No belts, no suspenders, no nets ... just a rock-solid core ensemble to lay down a lyrical groove and a constantly shifting array of talent. Bring your horn and sit in, or just sit back and enjoy the emerging musical mosaic. Nick Rowland and his beltless crew host the Take Five Jazz Jam every second and fourth Sunday evening from 7pm to 10pm. Like Take Five’s coffee drinks, it’s habit-forming, but you won’t mind a bit.
