Music and Events
Music is an integral part of the Take Five atmosphere. You might have guessed that as we're named after a song and our walls feature images of jazz greats. We program our own music (and gladly pay our ASCAP fees to support the music makers). It's primarily jazz - lots of old Blue Note recordings - but we mix in a healthy dose of good rock, funk, soul and rhythm & blues. If there's something you think we might like to add, tell us. Our ears are always open.
Take Five Coffee Bar also features live music every Friday and Saturday night (and sometimes Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday too) from the amazingly talented artists living in the Kansas City area and beyond. Check our calendar and sign up for our e-mail newsletter to find out who's playing. Enjoy a latte or a cocktail while you're listening, we won't object.

In what might be their swan song at Take Five (we aren't technically allowed to host anything but jazz at the new joint), the guys of Hard@Play are sure to pack the house with their signature sound - horn driven rock from the 60s and 70s. Think Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears; think you better get here way early to get a seat, too.

The remarkable Shay Estes joins us for an evening (it's been way too long).

Joined by Ron Carlson (guitar) and Greg Clinkingbeard (bass) we are thrilled to have them one last time in our small space.
Sunday, September 28 - 7pm to 9pm: Diverse/Closing Celebration ($5 cover)
It's only fitting that Diverse is the last band to play at the current location, as they were the first band to play jazz on our "stage" four years ago (see photo above from that event). Join Hermon Mehari (trumpet), Ben Leifer (bass) and Ryan Lee (drums) as they send us on to our new digs in style. Pick up a copy of their latest CD "Our Journey" while you're here.
We'll be closed for a couple of weeks at the beginning of October. Watch here for more information about what we have planned for the new location - the Opening Party is going to be an event you won't want to miss.
Thank you to everyone who made jazz in the corner of a smallish coffee shop in south Leawood possible; to the musicians who took a chance on us; to the customers and fans who come, sit down and listen; to our staff, who make this a great place to hang out; and last but not least, to our friends and family, for bearing with us, supporting us, and generally being our biggest cheerleaders.
We can't wait to show you ALL what's happening next...
